Iran Shoots At Reaper Drone That Was Taking Video Of Tanker Attack

In a escalation of tension in the Middle East, while circling the tankers that came under attack in the Gulf, the US sent a Reaper drone to the area, it soon came under attack from Iran.

According to FOX News, the Reaper Drone showed up shortly after the attack on the tanker. Iran fired a missile, but missed, at the US drone on Thursday after the attack on the oil tankers, something the US is blaming Iran for. Another drone was shot down by Iranian backed rebels in Yemen in the last couple of days as well.

A Senior US official said that an MQ9 Reaper drone on Thursday was fired on by the Iranians shortly after it arrived on the scene where the MV Altair tanker sent a distress signal after being attacked. The US is blaming these attacks on Iran.

The official statement is that a distress call came from the MV Altair tanker, a Marshall Islands-flagged but Norwegian-owned crude oil tanker, went out at 6:12 am, local time. The Reaper drone arrived on the scene just 8 minutes later.

At 6:45 am local time, Iran fired a missile at the drone, but missed. The US said it was a modified SA-7 fired from Iranian coastal batteries. They fired on it as it came to take up position over the area.

The news came after attacks have already put the US and Iran on the cusp of conflict. The US is blaming Iran for the attacks, Iran is vehemently denying they had a part in this.

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has blamed Iran for the “blatant assault” on oil tankers in the Gulf of Oman earlier Thursday.

In a news conference, Pompeo said: “This assessment is based on intelligence, the weapons used, the level of expertise needed to execute the operation, recent similar Iranian attacks on shipping, and the fact that no proxy group operating in the area has the resources and proficiency to act with such a high degree of sophistication.”

He said that Iran is working to try to disrupt the flow of oil through the Strait of Hormuz, and this is part of a greater move to escalate tension. He went on to say that the US would not only defend its forces, but the interest of the region, although he refused to elaborate further.

President Trump told “Fox and Friends” Friday morning that the attack had “Iran written all over it.’

“Iran did do it and you know they did it because you saw the boat,” he said, before pointing to the video showing the Iranians removing the unexploded mine. “They’re a nation of terror and they’ve changed a lot since I’ve been president, I can tell you,” he added.

On Friday US officials released a video that claimed to show Iran’s Revolutionary Guard removing a limpet mine, that had not detonated, from one of the vessels.

The footage, all shot in black-and-white, along with photo’s from the US military Central Command on Friday, appeared to show the limpet mine that was unexploded on the Japanese-owned Kokuka Courageous, then a Revolutionary Guard patrol Boat pull up alongside the ship and remove the mine.
