Netanyahu Vows, If Re-Elected, To Annex West Bank’s Jordan Valley
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu issued a declaration that if he wins the election he will move to annex the Jordan Valley in Judea and Samaria, commonly referred to as the West Bank.
“There is one place where we can apply Israeli sovereignty immediately after the elections,” Netanyahu said in a televised speech.
“If I receive from you, citizens of Israel, a clear mandate to do so … today I announce my intention to apply with the formation of the next government Israeli sovereignty over the Jordan Valley and
He also restated his intention to annex Israeli settlements in Judea and Samaria if re-elected, this is promised to be done with coordination with US President Trump, whose peace plan is expected to be unveiled sometime after the vote.
There was no reply from the White House in favor of this or against it, nor that the Trump peace place offered Israel a chance to annex all the settlements.
Those moves could effectively kill any remaining hopes for a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, long the focus of international diplomacy. But one would question if there was ever a chance of success to start with.
The Jordan Valley makes up about one
Israeli settlements are located in what is known as Area C, this is land which under the Oslo 2 accords Israel was given control of, (Area B was land jointly controlled, Area A was land controlled by the Palestinian Authority). This land is all located in the Jordan Valley as you can see from the map above.
The Palestinian Authority has said that any such move would kill any chance of a two-state solution. Of course, this is the same people that rejected Trump’s peace plan without even looking at it.
