Why Are the Media Ignoring Political Threats and Intimidation?
Much speculation surrounds what a Joe Biden administration might look like. If reports from left-leaning media outlets are accurate, the future will be a sunlit upland of unity and compassion. Yet, are the Utopians in the Fourth Estate ignoring certain dark clouds?
For the last four years, the American public has been fed a steady diet of news stories that painted President Trump as the Bully-in-Chief, who threatens and abuses if it serves his selfish purpose. And some of it may be true: Very few of his millions of supporters ever considered him a “Mr. Nice Guy.” But to ignore the numerous reports of threats and provocations from Biden advocates smacks of something far more dangerous.
Money in the Bank
The United States General Services Administration (GSA) has agreed to allow Team Biden to access funds and resources as part of a transition process, which includes several million dollars. The Biden transition team was quick to make a political statement about the decision, saying, “The GSA Administrator has ascertained President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris as the apparent winners of the election, providing the incoming Administration with the resources and support necessary to carry out a smooth and peaceful transfer of power.” But this is not quite accurate.
In fact, Emily Murphy of the GSA made it quite clear that “[t]he actual winner of the presidential election will be determined by the electoral process detailed in the Constitution.” This introductory offer of access is not the whole story, however, and it may surprise some who get their news from the Biden-friendly Fourth Estate to hear the background.
A Campaign of Threats
Murphy wrote a detailed letter explaining not only her decision but also the circumstances surrounding it. After expressly stating that she was “never directly or indirectly pressured by any Executive Branch official—including those who work at the White House or GSA—with regard to the substance or timing of my decision,” she went on to lambast (presumably) Biden allies for their behavior. She wrote:
“I did, however, receive threats online, by phone, and by mail directed at my safety, my family, my staff, and even my pets in an effort to coerce me into making this determination prematurely.”
Threats to her family, staff, and even pets? Does this sound like “unity” and “healing”? The president tweeted:
“I want to thank Emily Murphy at GSA for her steadfast dedication and loyalty to our Country. She has been harassed, threatened, and abused—and I do not want to see this happen to her, her family, or employees of GSA.
“Our case STRONGLY continues, we will keep up the good … fight, and I believe we will prevail! Nevertheless, in the best interest of our Country, I am recommending that Emily and her team do what needs to be done with regard to initial protocols, and have told my team to do the same.”
Yet More Threats
The incident with Murphy is by no means isolated. Consider the lawyers on Trump’s legal team who were doxed by the Lincoln Project and subsequently harassed and intimidated at home and work for daring to represent their client. Billed by the legacy media as lawyers leaving a sinking ship, there was little mention of these attorneys having to deal with vile threats to their lives and livelihoods.
And what of the Wayne County Republican canvassers who were harassed and intimidated into certifying the results of an election they believed had major issues? The outlets of note gleefully reported that yet another election result had been certified against Trump and paid no mind to the reported bullying. According to The Federalist, one Michigan Democrat lawmaker even went so far as to dox the board member’s children.
A Reign of Terror?
Does this represent the harmony the nation has been promised? If so, it is perhaps reminiscent of the words of Maximilien Robespierre, as he outlined the necessity for “terror”:
“If the basis of popular government in peacetime is virtue, the basis of popular government during a revolution is both virtue and terror; virtue, without which terror is baneful; terror, without which virtue is powerless.
“Terror is nothing more than speedy, severe and inflexible justice; it is thus an emanation of virtue; it is less a principle in itself, than a consequence of the general principle of democracy, applied to the most pressing needs of the patrie (fatherland).”
Are we witnessing today the culmination of indignation, faux media hysteria, and the attitude of By Any Means Necessary? If so, these incidents will be not outliers but rather the modus operandi.
