Why We Should Move Our Embassy to Jerusalem
Since the Jerusalem Embassy Act 0f 1995 went into law by the 104th Congress on October 23, 1995, we have heard reasons for not making the move, as is provided in the law from President after President. The reasons for not moving, while the excuses are many, nothing has changed, instead, all we have done is ignore Israel’s capital in the name of political correctness, this needs to stop. Mr. President, it is time to follow the law, stop signing wavers as your predecessors did, you promised us you would move the embassy, it is time to fulfill that promise.
So what is the 1995 Jerusalem Embassy Act? It is public law 104 of the 1995 Congress, they passed it on October 23, 1995, with the intent of it being acted on by May 31, 1999. The problem has been starting with Bill Clinton, then George W Bush, on to Barack Obama and now President Trump has also had every six months signed a waiver. This was due to a provision in Section 7 that states, if a President finds that the move is not expedient for national security they may sign a waiver for 6 months, then six months later must revisit this, either move the embassy or sign another waiver. Every President since President Clinton has done this, Trump himself did this May of this year. Now the need rises by Monday where he must either sign a waiver or if he doesn’t then there has to be put in place a timeline to move the embassy and the ambassador to Jerusalem, the capital of Israel.
Reasons for signing the Waiver
Every president has given the same reason for not signing the waver, they felt that by so doing it would cause problems with the peace negotiations between the Palestinian Authority and Israel; the claim is to do so now would cause irreparable harm. And here is the problem with this, we have done this, Arafat and now Abbas were happy, promises were made, but never kept, yet over 20 years, or over the course of 40 waivers, nothing has changed. So I must ask if nothing has changed, all there seems to be is pressure to not allow us to do this, why should we give in to this pressure?
We have a terrorist organization, Fatah, which is just a rebranded PLO, who has its origins in Fascist Germany, has hijacked planes, killed Americans, slaughtered Israeli Olympic athletes, and countless civilians; have they changed? If not, why are we according them any respect? I sure don’s see us doing this with Hamas or Hezbollah. And have they really changed? Why not let their words speak for themselves, I sure don’t want to be accused of putting words in their mouth.
“Palestine cannot contain the two of us. It is either us or the Zionists.”
– Abu Imad, PLO military commander in Bourj al-Barajneh, Lebanon
(Jerusalem Report, November 18, 1993)
“All spears should be directed at the Jews, at the enemies of Allah, the nation that was cursed in Allah’s book. Allah has described them as apes and pigs… We blow them up in Hadera, we blow them up in Tel Aviv and in Netanya… until the Jew will hide behind a stone or a tree, and the stone or the tree will say: Oh Muslim, Oh servant of Allah, a Jew is hiding behind me, come kill him.”
– Sheikh Ibrahim Madhi, Palestinian Authority cleric
(Palestinian Authority Television, August 3, 2001)
“Oh Allah, vanquish the Jews and their supporters. Oh Allah, vanquish the Americans and their supporters. Oh Allah, count their numbers, and kill them all, down to the very last one.”
– Ahmad Bahr, Palestinian Legislative Council acting speaker
(Sudan TV, April 13, 2007
History of Fatah Towards Israel and the US
We can go back to the father of Fatah or the Palestinian people, Haj Amin al-Husseini, the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem, the very man who fled to Germany and worked with Hitler. He was instrumental in setting up the SS Muslim Death Squads, charges were brought against him by the Nuremberg courts for his crimes against humanity. We can thank the British and the French for aiding him in keeping him away from the courts. This is what he said of the Jews during the second world war:
“Kill the Jews wherever you find them. This pleases God, history, and religion.”
– Haj Amin al-Husseini, Mufti of Jerusalem
(Radio Berlin, March 1, 1944; quoted in Robert Wistrich, Muslim Anti-Semitism: A Clear and Present Danger[American Jewish Committee, 2002], p. 47)
Now I know some will say they have changed, they have joined the ranks of the civilized nations, but have they? We do know that a large percentage of their budget, to the tune of millions paid to the terrorist. This is due to a 2013 law that requires Fatah or the Palestinian Authority to pay out salaries to the terrorist who was imprisoned for attacking Israeli’s, they actually get more if they killed Israeli civilians. Further, if the Arab terrorist is killed, they give money to their families. This is the point of the quandary now with the US and other nations, they are taking our aid money and using it to pay out blood money.
You also have the case of Palestinian attacks against US civilians, many of them while visiting Israel. They pay these attackers blood money as well, what is worse, they are paying it out of US funds that are granted to them. In other words, we are paying them to pay terrorist to kill our own people, we should cut off all talks and all aid until this stops. If they don’t, then relabel them as a terrorist supporting group and be done with them.
But let’s go further, we have already seen earlier what the PLO has said, but what about the other Arab groups. The very groups that the world is demanding Israel bring back into their lands if any peace agreement is reached, the “Right of Return.” What do these people have to say about Israel and the Jews:
“It is an open war until the elimination of Israel and until the death of the last Jew on earth.”
– Hezbollah statement, issued under Islamic Jihad alias
(United Press International, March 24, 1992)
“If they [Jews] all gather in Israel, it will save us the trouble of going after them worldwide.”
– Sheikh Hassan Nasrallah, Hezbollah leader
(Daily Star, Lebanon, October 23, 2002)
“The Prophet of Allah has promised us that the Jews will gather in Palestine, and that the Muslims will fight them, and totally kill them.”
– Muhammad Nimr al-Zaghmout, head of the Palestinian Islamic Council in Lebanon
(Al-Kawthar TV, May 15, 2007)
It is of little wonder that nothing has ever been done, more so when you look at the very Charter of Hamas, they openly have in their charter a prophecy from Mohammad that teaches the Arabs will kill every Jew, this is the day they say they are waiting for. And this is whom the world and the prior US administrations expect Israel to negotiate with, then act in surprise when nothing gets done? I must ask, if someone said they wanted to kill you and your whole family, would you give up part of your property so they could move next door to you?
Ramifications of Moving the Embassy
I personally don’t see many, Abbas and the Palestinians may walk away from any negotiations, but then they have done this for the last 70 years, in other words, nothing will change. Jordan may raise some protests, they are after all a majority of Palestinian Arab population, but they are far too dependent on not only US aid, but Israeli goodwill as well. I dare say one of the things holding their king in power is they know just as the Israeli’s did during the Black September uprisings in 1970, Israel would come to the aid of the Hashemite King if they tried to overthrow him again (of an interesting side note, in 1970 the Hashemite Kingdom killed far more “Palestinians” then Israel did in their whole being as a reborn Jewish state).
We may hear grumblings from other Arab nations, but with Iran expanding, all the Arab Sunni states from Saudi Arabia to the EAU will do little more than grumble. The reason? They are beginning to see the need for an Israel to aid in their confrontation of Iran, for none of them could do so by themselves, the old saying “The enemy of my enemy is my friend” is part of the reason for this change, while they are not friendly towards Israel, they know they need to to help contain Iran.
If there was ever a time to move the embassy it is now. With the Arab mind on the Iranian expansion problem, the Palestinian Authority in the middle of trying to unite with the Terrorist group Hams, we are at a great time to make this move and do so with little ramifications. We would in the process reward our greatest ally in the area by finally recognizing their capital, something even the so-called advanced nations of Europe will not do, much of this has to do with their fear of Arab reaction in their midst.
While we may see some reaction, the US is still the greatest strength in the area, we have pulled back and allowed Iran, Russia, and China to fill in what we have vacated, now the Middle East is much, much more unstable because of it. We need to step back into the place Obama was so quick to pull out of, thus tossing out trillions of dollars of investment, lives and political will by former political actors in the US, this falling back has gone on long enough, finally we have a president who I know will act in a way that is best not only for the US, but for Israel as well.
